Pho K&A Local Vietnamese Cuisine | Kapahulu, HI

Now that it’s summer, I am much more willing to drive off campus to grab lunch. Traffic and parking is sooo much better. Felt like some Vietnamese food this day but told myself that if there was no street front parking, I would not go. Obviously with this post, you can see that I scored the last street parking! The last time I came here to eat food, I parked in the back lot and used a QR code for parking and that coincided with my credit card getting hacked…it was too close of a timeline so I refuse to use that lot again.

Anyway, Pho K&A is probably one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants. Yes, they have great food but my most favorite dish is the Papaya Salad and I don’t even usually order this in restaurants! I’m talking too much, let me share photos.

I grew up eating combination pho so that will never change. It used to be meat outside but I think more and more restaurants shy away from giving raw meat now which is a pity. I don’t mind the steak being placed in already. The pho is great, but I never had a bad pho before so what can I say?

Green Papaya Salad with Shrimp | $15.00

Can I call your attention to the papaya in this dish? Do you see how thinly they slice their papaya? Usually in salads, the papaya is sliced into thick matchsticks. I think the thinly sliced papaya really adds to this dish. They are generous with the shrimp and the dressing on this salad is divine. The best part that I didn’t capture? Their chili oil (sate) sauce. Man they make some of the best chili oil I have had and I just slather it onto this salad. It’s chef’s kiss. This is so so good! They are a small family run restaurant and the young men who run the front are very polite and quick with their service. Please check them out!
