Mixed Plate Friday

I saw this sign the other week and thought it was so funny and oddly specific. It’s like this place had it UP TO HERE with Nan, Inc. vehicles in particular and had a special sign made for them. I couldn’t help but laugh.

Tuna Mayo Omusubi | $2.49

Unagi Hijiki Omusubi | $3.99

I went to Marukai Wholesale Mart the other day and love to peruse the ready made food section – especially after work since they are marked down (I am Chinese after all). I was super excited to try these musubis because I think they are made with a special rice and you even have to get the fresh nori from the cashier as you pay. The tuna mayo musubi was basic, exactly what you would expect. The unagi unfortunately was a bit of a bummer for me. The mixed rice was a bit mushy and sweet for my taste and the unagi was just okay. I probably wouldn’t get this again.

  1. Ahaha, ban Nan!
I always see that special musubi at Marukai but the prices for musubi have put me off. Sad the the unagi one wasn’t as good as it sounds and the price!

    • Hahaha I don’t work construction it’s all very funny to me.

I don’t need special musubi, I am not picky!

  2. I’m into musubi now since my appetite is greatly reduced one can serve as a meal.I prefer Marukai’s selection of food vs. Don Quixote. Only problem is The Rail.No can make turns so gotta be on the makai side of Dillingham so need to take Houghtailing exit. Grrr. BTW have you tried Fooki in that shopping center across Pearlridge. They serve Taiwanese food. Looks good

    • I wanna get down to that. Just one musubi for a meal and that’s it.

The monstrosity on dillingham has ruined it for all of us and the businesses. It is a bit of a nightmare which is why I hardly get out to Marukai, hope they remain open through all this!

And yes! I actually tried Fooki last summer with Kat! My review wasn’t super good lol. Have you tried seasons eatery in Chinese cultural plaza? Super good Taiwanese place!
