Chan and I met up with some friends at Zippy’s Mililani and it was super nice. Mililani is such a nice neighborhood and the restaurant side was clean and very chill. We were allowed to dine in and stay back to chat without much bother. This is going to be a super short post!
Chili & Cheese Fries | $6.75
golden brown fries topped with our famous chili and shredded cheddar cheese
Appetizer that Chan and I shared. Look, you can never lose with chili, cheese and fries. The cheese came out like this but no worries, it melted as we ate it! Was really good.
Saturday Special Mushroom Chicken
Okay so I didn’t look at the menu closely but in my mind, I expected either chicken katsu or chicken cutlet sliced up and served smothered in mushroom gravy. Heh, this wasn’t it. It was just a hearty chicken and mushroom stew. It tasted fine but I was just a bit disappointed because it wasn’t what I expected. I know better for future!
Zip Min
This is so odd. I am trying to find this item on their website or menus and it’s not available. You can’t order this for take-out? How odd. Anyway, this was Chan’s dish! He said it’s pricey and not really worth it, not as good as he remembers.
somehow i can’t bring myself to eat chili cheese fries but i love chili and cheese on a baked potato. go figure.
funny also because even though I’ve never had the mushroom chicken, that is exactly what I would envision it to be. maybe it’s because it would make it like that at home for dinner with cream of mushroom soup. LOL
How come?? Do you not like fries? Hahaha or just no wanna mix fries with stuff?
How funny! But you’re right, home cooked style would totally be a cream of mushroom soup concoction. I need to use more of those soups!!
Zippy’s was THE place to go to after dances, events back in the late 60’s and early 70’s for oldsters like me – the original one on King Street by Washington Intermediate (yep, old school name).
I still like their food and their hours are great because they are open when everyone else is closed. I like their very pricy oxtail soup, fried saimin, hamburger steak, pork tofu when they have it, and their club house sandwich. The rice is kinda junk (I am a rice snob) but at least it isn’t mooshy.
They have the best take out containers! Yup, I am a pack rat.
Oooh I wonder if the kids today still go Zippy’s since they are one of the few 24 hour joints! And honestly, their food is still delicious and to me comfort food.
Their rice isn’t like the best but I’ve had worse (ahem Foodland). I am a take out container hoarder too but I need to stop! Cabinets overflowing!
chili cheese fries FTW!
Like Auntie said Zippy’s was da place to end up in the 60s and 70s for me too. The food was sooo good and made fresh. The corn chowder that time was massive and not like today’s watery version. Of course the few restaurants that was open after the clubs and bars closed, and drinking age was 18. But then most places, food was good then. Not like today’s massive frozen and factory made food they defrost and serve up. The sad part is current and future gens thinks today’s mediocre food is “da bombz”
