Mixed Plate Friday

Chicken Katsu Curry | $6.99

Don’t get to frequent 7-eleven too much now but was excited to see this on my last visit so I had to try it! Not going to be a good judge because I had to microwave it myself and timed it wrong so it was still kind of cold when I was eating it but was too lazy to continue heating it after I already opened it up. They have a transparent sheet that separates the chicken katsu from the curry that you pull out when you dig in. Interesting way to keep the chicken “crispy” but let’s be real, it’s not crispy when we are grabbing this from the fridge lol. This was okay but the chicken portion is small, would rather just go L&L to grab a freshly made one.

Homemade Udon Salad

Made a variation of the Japanese Udon Salad I usually make, linked above. Same concept, I just varied up the ingredients a bit! The biggest main stay for me is the goma dressing and fresh cilantro. Other than that, you can do whatever you like! I even made Japanese styled seasoned shiitake mushrooms for the first time. Yum!

Corned Beef

Happy Belated Saint Patrick’s Day! This kine food is more Chan’s style but we bought some corned beef so we made it the other week. Threw in some potatoes, cabbage and carrots. He sous-vide the beef and then we threw it in with the vegetables into his pressure cooker insta-pot. It was spewing things out like a volcano when I released the vent. I don’t use these contraptions like ever. Anyway, have a nice weekend!

I wonder if the udon would go with the yakisoba noodles. I’m sure it would. Sounds so yummy.
I don’t like katsu curry. The curry makes the breading all doughy that I do not like. But, I take the katsu and and crisp it up in the airfryer and eat it separately from the rice and curry. LOL. humbug but I like it.
Wow, I actually did not get to eat corned beef this year. Maybe I ‘ll buy a small one. I guess it’s one of those meals I don’t mind eating 3 days in a row.

Udon works great in a stir fry style! Try em! Are you still on the yakisoba phase? LOL. I get what you’re saying about the sogginess but how you do it sounds great to me. You still get all three components!

I wonder if corned beef is now cheaper in the market to sell them out…

  2. I had corned beef from Times plate lunches last Monday. Was tough. I think they rushed it for St. Patrick’s Day. Usually their corned beef is really soft and good.

I like 7-11 food but the salt content is super high. Maybe that’s why I like it.

Oh, and btw, I went back for a third time and they were out of the creamy spicy garlic ahi – the best thing on their menu, imo. I tried their grilled/fried musubi with ginger poke inside. Was okay but think I would rather have it plain or with ume. His garlic peanuts was da bomb!

anything fried with curry gotta eat when made fresh, cannot heat up unless you do it separate from the curry
