A new Korean BBQ take-out joint in Kalihi! I repeat, a new Korean BBQ take-out place in Kalihi! Griddle N Grindz is located in the Dillingham Plaza (the one with Foodland and Savers) and they are located where Yummy’s used to be (I didn’t even know they closed!). This place is take-out only, smallish menu but boy do they make that up in portions. Check it out.
Korean BBQ Chicken (Level 2 – Extra Spicy) | $13.49
Comes with 4 banchan choices, I chose fish cake, kimchee, cucumber kimchee and japchae
Been hankering for some Korean BBQ chicken, their chicken is good! Love the grill marks, the banchan is good. I like the fish cake and the japchae, the cucumber kimchee is just alright and the kimchee is okay too (nothing special).
I only got level 2 spicy and TMI, it was a small runny nose situation. I kind of want to risk it all and try their spiciest level (which they don’t charge extra for…!)
Fried Garlic Chicken | $14.79
Comes with 4 banchan choices, we chose macaroni salad, cucumber kimchee, japchae and fish cake
This is one of the plates a lot of people are getting, not pictured is the spicy mayo sauce that comes on the side for dipping (I am pretty sure it’s just mayo and sriracha). The chicken is good, nice juicy thigh pieces fried up light and crispy. Barely any garlic flavor. The mac salad is a bit bland, and I already critiqued the other three banchan choices above).
Menu as of July 2021 (their website has an outdated menu)
Not that this should matter, but I did not see a single Korean staff person here. LOL. I am not making any assumptions or trying to say anything, just saying the front and kitchen staff I was able to see were not Korean. It did not affect the taste of the food or my willingness to go back, I definitely would when I get a hankering for Korean BBQ again!
Oooo. Thanks for this info! I gotta try there!
Been on a Korean kick lately.
BTW. I did the Jalgachi bossam. They must have run out of oysters so they put some white fish type sashimi instead. I liked that a lot better!
Ooh can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
I was devastated when you shared the white fish sashimi on the bossam. I love oysters so much…but am glad you liked it better that way!
I like raw oysters but the little ones not the huge kind. I think that’s why I like the cheap bossam at Palama mkt. They I put the tiny ones in.
I doubt if either places put fresh oysters…too fishy….must be frozen or the jar kind
Whoa!!
☺️
ooh another place to add to my list:)
Got plenty places on your list! Hopefully they all still open and kicking when you make it back!
Definitely going to try it – maybe tomorrow! Tuesdays are senior discount days at Savers – 30% off everything! I been going and looking for rice cookers and been finding a couple for friends to make black garlic.
After I usually go to Bob’s Barbeque on Waiakamilo and Dillingham – but this time I shall try their kalbi. I love kalbi. But I also love Bob’s Barbeque….
I went today after Savers. I ordered the kalbi plate. Ono!!! The spinach banchan was good, as well as the broccoli – well it was just broccoli. And I liked the cucumber kimchee alongside the cabbage banchan.
Kalbi was good – not dry.
The place REALLY needs frontage because it looks closed with plain plain windows and a not too bright “open” sign. Inside was a shock because it was modern and stylish looking. The tv screen showed Claire – the Korean wife of the cook who makes all kinds of ramen and other food on YouTube – and she kept on eating and eating and eating. Very amazing.
Thanks for the review of it. Now another Kalihi favorite to go to!!!
Oh I am so glad you got to try Aunty! I never got to try the spinach banchan, gotta try it next time. Right? The restaurant is kind of in an abandoned area cause everything surrounding it seems closed. Ohhh I never got to watch the TV! Wish I did…glad the kalbi worked out so well for you!
