Mixed Plate Friday

Hong Kong Island Cafe Hawaii Typhoon Shelter Prawns | $22.00

Hard post to write, this was a good dish but did not deliver what I thought. Their yelp page has a few pictures of prawns (which I freaking love) but take a look at what I got. Does this look like prawns to you? No. This just looks like shrimp. Don’t get me wrong, the dish was good but prawns it wasn’t. Fancy title but really it’s just salt and pepper shrimp. Would I get it again? Only if they could guarantee it was prawns. I even asked the front cashier if it was prawns and she said yes, though her English skills were lacking. This plate wasn’t cheap so yeah, disappointment.

Kansai Yamato Mango Mochi

I wrote about the viral mango mochi in Vegas last week and wanted to share Hawaii’s version. Okay there are two. One is the big mango shaped one which includes half a mango and lima bean as it’s filling. This one is like a circular bomb and is filled with fresh diced mango and whipped cream! Okay, so I have to be honest. I bought two. The first one I ate on my own tasted weird. Not like a bad or rotten weird, just maybe the mango wasn’t quite right. The second one that I shared with Chan was pretty good! So yeah, it’s hit or miss based on how good the mango they use is. It’s about 7 dollars per mochi but worth it for fresh mango!
