Kaimuki Shokudo – Kaimuki, HI

I tried Kaimuki Shokudo for the first time a few weeks ago – haven’t been to Shokudo since they were on Kapiolani and even then – I hadn’t been back for quite a while. The food quality and service was lacking in my last visit so that hastened my need NOT to go. I was excited to try their new restaurant since soba was one of the specialties, and you know how much I love noodles! Let’s check it out.

Li Hing Mango Soda | $5.00

This was a belated birthday meal for my cousin. She wanted to order both drinks, try both and keep the she liked lol. I was fine with that since I would drink both anyway! She liked the mango one best, figures.

Ume Oroshi Shiso Soba (Cold) | $15.00

This looks like a great dish, if I liked ume. I’m not a huge fan of ume so I wouldn’t get it. She didn’t seem to love it either but I think she didn’t read through the description good enough. I think if you like what’s in this, you would like it!!

Um, lol I forgot to take a picture of my soba lol. It’s okay, it was just zaru soba, you know what that looks like. And yes it tasted good because how can zaru soba taste bad? At least I got a picture of the tempura, which was good!!

Spicy Tuna Don

We both chose the same half don to add to our set. I liked it! It wasn’t the best spicy tuna I’ve had but good enough. It’s mashed down to like a negitoro texture for those who care…

Honey Toast | $14.50
Strawberry Sakura (Special Flavor) | +$4.50

Honey Toast was all the rave with Shokudo back in the day. I think they were the first one to serve this in Hawaii. We tried this special of the month and it was just ehh…I actually would have loved it if they had a green tea and vanilla ice cream. This special was just a bit too much flavor you know?

Anyway, it was nice to have tried! I made a reservation just in case and yeah they were pretty busy so I’m glad I did! They seated us in the boonies which worried me at first but the service ended up being okay! Nice to have another option near work to eat at, I would return!
