The Ward area has slowly been torn down bit by bit, but Ward Centre closing down is by far my biggest heartbreak. This used to be my mecca in high school through my 20’s. Borders was my comfort place, the bargain book section was my second home. I used to buy the bargain cookbooks every weekend, loved walking around the different sections and check out the cafe on the 2nd floor. In high school, one of my clubs volunteered to wrap presents during the holiday season every year and I remember it being so much fun.
I came here a few days before all the shops had to close down. End of another era, and plans for even more unneeded luxury condos. The hallway in Ward Centre had a distinct smell – probably from the Paul Brown salon but I always loved the smell. It was so depressing walking through the empty halls. Why do we always have to tear everything down?
Remember how bustling Ward Centre used to be? They even had Valet Service because parking was always crazy. Here’s a toast to Ward Centre – it certainly served me well over the years. Hope you have happy memories there too!
