Gyotaku is a great Japanese restaurant. I know it’s not one of the trendy fancy smancy restaurants, I think locals equate this restaurant with big family dinners or a place for older diners. While this restaurant is definitely great for those groups, I think it’s a great place to dine for anyone! Anytime I feel like having a delicious no frills Japanese meal, you will find me here. They have three locations but I prefer the location on King Street, I’ve had on and off experiences at the other two locations.

Poke Don – one of my favorite dishes! 

Salad with their own homemade Wafu dressing. Great dressing. They sell bottles of their dressing at the cashier’s station downstairs! Cheaper than getting it in the markets.

Miso Soup – your typical miso soup. They used to serve chawan mushi with their teishoku sets. Gyotaku served one of the best chawan mushi I have ever had and I’m so sad they discontinued it. I would even pay ala carte for it! It’s really too bad.

Chicken Karaage. Perfectly seasoned and so juicy inside!

Zaru Soba, California Roll and Tenpura Set

Here’s the dipping sauce for the soba noodles.  The tsuru is in a cup on the bottom, the lid contains freshly grated daikon, green onion and wasabi. Add whatever you want to the sauce and slurp away!

This set comes with a california roll and a spicy tuna roll. Well not complete rolls, like a mini set.

Tenpura.  Their tenpura usually comes with shrimp, string beans, eggplants and a slice of sweet potato. Light, crisp and delicious. There are only two entrees I usually order when I come to this restaurant. First is the poke don which is awesome. Second is this zaru soba set. Both are great. If you have any room left after dinner, give their desserts a try! Their Zenzai or the  Sweet Potato Haupia pie is winnas.
