Agu’s Savory Parmesan Kotteri Tonkotsu

I’ve done too many Agu Ramen posts to count so I’ll just share a new bowl I tried the other day. I wanted to see what the big fuss was about since pictures of this was popping up all over Instagram. How was it? Good! But I didn’t taste a real strong parmesan taste and since the cheese was shaved really thin, it’s not like I was getting nice strands of melted cheese as I slurped noodles. It also costs like 4 dollars more than the regular kotteri tonkotsu so it wasn’t worth it to me. $4 for a sprinkling of cheese? I’ll stick to the regular…thanks.

Hmm…$15.75 versus $11.75, go for the regular. This one is overhyped.

Healthy Dinner = Healthy Wallet

My friend and I were cruising around for some dinner the other night and since we couldn’t head to the place we wanted, we decided to check out Down to Earth. We both love their tofu nori rolls so we decided to make a salad at the salad bar. A scoop here, a scoop there and before I knew it…I was paying $16 bucks for a container of salad. Salad. Gosh, it costs so much to eat healthy. The salad wasn’t great, I got a bunch of beets for my salad and it was the worst part! They had shredded the beets and they were so dry, it was hard to eat. Do I think the salad was good? Not at all. I saw another guy really packing his salad plate FULL – I’m scared to imagine what he paid.

140618-01

140618-02I was really excited about the watercress tofu salad but it was SO bitter. I was so unhappy.

140618-03Brownie! I forgot the exact name of this but I’m sure it was healthy in some way but it tastes like it looks…delicious! Doesn’t this look so moist? It was so good. It was nice to get the taste of the salad out of my mouth…hehe

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

Those who get the title of my post, A+ for you. 🙂 I have shared my affinity for beets in the past. So guess what? Costco is selling fresh beets in their refrigerated section. They are fully cooked and peeled…ready to eat! I was so happy when I found them. I have straight-up been eating them at work as part of my lunch for the past few days. No salad, just beets. I’m insane. I know.

Anyway, hope you all are doing well. Today was Monday and it just felt like…it was dragging. I’m starting a new thing that I might regret. I don’t feel tired in the morning so I started drinking coffee right after lunch. It helps to keep me alert in the afternoon but it’s like 10 pm now and I still feel alert. This may need some tweaking but I do like that I felt alert all day today. Crazy yah. Anyway, I took some pictures of the beets!  I think a container comes with about 12-16 beets and it costs $6.29 – I think that’s a great deal! We all know what a pain it can be to prepare beets – I’ll pay for it this way anytime! Oh by the way, they have a pretty long shelf-life since each package is vacuum sealed!

Happy Friday the 13th!

Wowowow it’s been busy!! Wednesday was a day off for me but I spent the morning running errands…then the afternoon being all pissy. Well for part of it anyway. 🙂 I also cooked some awesome spaghetti for the boys and they loved it. I saw the technique on a blog a few weeks ago and decided to make it…what a great idea! Here is a picture of the before and after!

140613-01

I used the Redondo’s red hot dogs and skewered them with angel hair pasta. I cooked it for about 6-7 minutes (really fast since the angel hair is so thin!), drained em…emptied a can of chili (beanless of course!) and threw the pasta back in and mixed it up a bit. I also added some mozzarella cheese which went great with it. As we were eating, I thought it was a bit dry so I added a small bit of ketchup. Boy did that help! The boys LOVED it. There’s not a lot of dishes that tempt kids to clean their plates but this is definitely one of them! Have a great Friday the 13th everyone! I wish you all the luck. 🙂

Happy Sunday Happy Funday!

We woke up early this morning and decided to head out to Makapu’u for a hike. Well we were originally going to go up to the Lighthouse but then decided to walk around the tidepools. It was such a nice walk and the scenery really transported me to another place – I imagined being in some kind of jungle. 🙂 Anyway, I hope you folks all had a great weekend! Just want to share some pictures from our journey today.

Thanks renee for requesting this recipe! Even though I mentioned how much I loved these, I didn’t even ask for the recipe myself! So now we both have the recipe! Thanks to my co-worker Arleen for sharing it!

Mixed Plates

Just a quick update of a few plates we had from dinner one night. Got lazy and drove to two different places to pick up dinner to satisfy different appetites.

140606-01Two piece Jollibee’s Plate – we got double mash. The little white container contains more gravy…I don’t know what for. The chicken itself is seasoned already so I wouldn’t use the gravy. I got to try a taste of the chicken and I thought it was pretty good! Fried crisp and it had pretty good seasoning in the meat too! I wouldn’t mind trying a plate of my own next time.

140606-03Hamburger Steak plate from Richie’s Drive Inn. The first time I’ve tried it here, wasn’t a fan. This time I was. Pretty good! Their mac salad is good too.

140606-02Richie’s Chili Dog Plate, it comes with a small soda as well. It looks like they raised the price. It used to be $5 something but now it’s $6, still a great deal if you ask me!

Duke’s Waikiki – Waikiki, HI

This post will be more of a gallery of pictures than a review. I tried to take pictures of Duke’s Waikiki serves during their Lunch Buffet. It’s basically a huge salad bar with hot entrees thrown in. They even have a made to order pasta and panini station. Our office came here to celebrate administrative professionals day and everyone loved it. Great selection of foods and killer view of Waikiki beach…with lots of tourists, hehe. The parking for this place is located in Ohana East hotel so you do have to walk a few blocks to the restaurant but it’s not too bad. Here are the pictures!

140605-10140605-11Not the best lighting for picture taking. You can’t really tell from this plate but I grabbed a LOT of beets. They have an awesome salad bar with all the toppings you can imagine. Their beets were great because they were freshly cooked and sliced, not from a can! I can eat beets all day long…with ranch dressing. Hahaha…one of my favorite dishes was also the spicy broccoli salad. I don’t think I have a picture of it here but it was perfect. I also liked that they par-boiled the broccoli because I can’t stand raw broccoli. The lunch buffet is only $16.95 – great deal!

Koi Catering & Takeout – Kalihi, HI

I coordinated a lunch order with Koi Catering & Takeout last week and they must have had a heyday with me. I called constantly to change and add orders in but each time they picked up the phone, they were nice as could be. I really appreciate great customer service. When we went to pick up the food, the cashier was sweet as pie too! We were running late with lunch this day so I wasn’t able to take much pictures of the food. I hope to return there soon so maybe I’ll have more pictures then! The food was good. I got the wrong dish so I definitely have to go back and try one of their ahi plates, I heard that was good. I originally wanted the mushroom chicken but they were out of it so I had to get the pork chops, it wasn’t a good choice for this order.

140604-02It doesn’t look THAT bad but it really wasn’t good. It was overcooked and dry, I was disappointed.

140604-01Steak and Portabello Mushroom Salad – looks GOOD ah? My coworker loved it, I’m pretty sure she did because she cleaned it out!

Ono Seafood – Kapahulu, HI

The infamous Ono Seafood on Kapahulu. I have never been there before and always feared going because of the fear of no parking! Luckily, I decided to give it a try the other week and realized they have pretty good parking! There is only about 2 spots in front of the shop but the empty lot next door gives you a few more stalls so we were good. This is a super small shop, it really is grab and go. They specialize in poke and JUST poke which is fine since they do such a dang good job at it. Do I wish I could get a side of roast pork with it…yes, but I’ll live. It’s a great deal because you get a poke bowl and it comes with a drink! Here are the ones we tried…

Hawaiian Style Poke Bowl

140603-02Spicy Ahi Poke Bowl!
My dish, so good! There is a lot of onions as shown in the picture but there definitely wasn’t a strong bite so it was good. I would definitely return here to have some again!
