Young Radish Kimchee

I made this discovery way too late. Way. Too. Late. Have you guys heard of young radish kimchee? Oh my gosh, it is so good! Here’s the story. I went to Queen’s Supermarket to grab my usual kimchee and decided to try some of the fresh kimchee selections. I saw the whole radish kimchee and totally had to try it. I love watching Korean dramas and those crazy people who take a bite out of the whole radish in the middle of the night out of anger. I’m weird, I know. Anyhow, there is this leafy green on top of the radish and I enjoyed it at a lot. Then I realized they sell the leafy tops on their own! It’s called young radish kimchee and it is glorious. The texture is what makes it the best. It looks a bit like choy sum but has the texture of super crisp ong choy. It’s SO good. Please give it a try when you have the chance!

Crunchy. Fresh. Delicious. Spicy. Awesome.

Happy July!

You know what I just realized? I missed my blog’s one year anniversary! It was last month! I cannot believe it’s been a year! I feel like it was just yesterday that I started this blog. I had another food blog a few years ago but I hadn’t updated it in a while. I hesitated buying this domain and starting up this blog but sure am glad I did. Thanks to everyone who reads my blog – I really appreciate it! Sorry I haven’t blogged too much in the past week, I’ve had up and down days. I hope to get active again soon! I spent a lot of time in the kitchen yesterday failing at recipes…lol. I lost inspiration in cooking for a bit, I hope to get my cooking mojo back real soon.

I hope you all have a great first day of July! Friday is a holiday, YES! I’ll just leave you with a quick update. We’ve had a few pot lucks lately and I made baked spaghetti for both. Oh this one in the picture was killer. I thought I was totally set and got into a total groove as I was cooking. Pasta was ready, sauce was going…oven was preheated and then guess what? Yah. I forgot to buy a can of those tomatoes with celery, onion and stuff. Here I was, 5:50 in the morning wondering what I should do. I did some morning business and jumped in my car to head out to foodland to grab a can. Whew, they had it. Thank god. Anyway, the spaghetti was a hit both times at the office. Each time I make it, I add more cheese. I gotta stop that. Have a good one guys!

Deluxe Breakfast!

Hey guys. I assume that you folks know about the breakfast platters at McDonald’s right? The deluxe platter comes with three pieces of portuguese sausage and 2 pieces of spam. My cousin told me that if you ask for no spam – they just give you double the order of portuguese sausage. THAT’S SIX PIECES. Okay, that’s way too much but if you are ever feeling hungry – go for it! It’s only a little more than the regular platter and McD has the best breakfast platters. Yup, I said it. I’ll stand by that unless someone can prove me wrong. 🙂

140625-01Yah, I was hungry this morning. It was way too much. Gosh, this picture is making me hungry.

Happy Friday Cookies!

140620-01

My brothers made cookies the other week. Looks good ah? Hahahaha, happy Friday everyone!

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

Those who get the title of my post, A+ for you. 🙂 I have shared my affinity for beets in the past. So guess what? Costco is selling fresh beets in their refrigerated section. They are fully cooked and peeled…ready to eat! I was so happy when I found them. I have straight-up been eating them at work as part of my lunch for the past few days. No salad, just beets. I’m insane. I know.

Anyway, hope you all are doing well. Today was Monday and it just felt like…it was dragging. I’m starting a new thing that I might regret. I don’t feel tired in the morning so I started drinking coffee right after lunch. It helps to keep me alert in the afternoon but it’s like 10 pm now and I still feel alert. This may need some tweaking but I do like that I felt alert all day today. Crazy yah. Anyway, I took some pictures of the beets!  I think a container comes with about 12-16 beets and it costs $6.29 – I think that’s a great deal! We all know what a pain it can be to prepare beets – I’ll pay for it this way anytime! Oh by the way, they have a pretty long shelf-life since each package is vacuum sealed!

Happy Sunday Happy Funday!

We woke up early this morning and decided to head out to Makapu’u for a hike. Well we were originally going to go up to the Lighthouse but then decided to walk around the tidepools. It was such a nice walk and the scenery really transported me to another place – I imagined being in some kind of jungle. 🙂 Anyway, I hope you folks all had a great weekend! Just want to share some pictures from our journey today.

Have a great week everyone!!

Cobb Salad

The UH Manoa campus food court serves up a MEAN Cobb Salad. They have a great salad bar…so when I feel like a crapload of toppings with a side of greens…this is where I go. You gotta admit, a cobb salad is really just a masquerade of healthy. I don’t care, I believe it’s a healthy salad and I’m sticking to it. 🙂

I get my dressing on the side and substitute bacon for beet – that counts right? 🙂

Treats from Japan

My coworker just returned from a Japan trip recently and he graciously shared some snacks with us! I just wanted to show you a quick update of them.

140520-01I don’t know how many of you folks can read Japanese but this is wasabi Kit Kat! Interesting right? Now you see the wasabi plants all over the cover huh? How’d it taste? I couldn’t taste the wasabi like at all. I was even trying to see if there would be notes of it after I finished chewing, nothing! A bit disappointing, I wanted it to clear my sinuses…lol.

140520-02

140520-03

140520-04Tokyo Banana. I heard a lot about this treat and it seems to be a popular omiyage. I’m a fan of banana but not too much a fan of this treat. I could tell they were trying to create a cake that tasted a lot like the real thing…not a fan. Give me some good old banana bread anyday.

Healthy Salmon Rice

Would this qualify as healthy? Well, I tried my best to make it healthy for this particular post. I was eating brown rice with canned salmon. I usually eat it with a bit of mayonnaise, sesame oil and sriracha which essentially creates a spicy ahi type sauce and it’s GOOD. Well, one day I wanted to remove the mayonnaise and add soft tofu instead to try to mimic the texture. It didn’t work and it tasted very bland. Ah well, I did try!

140515-01It doesn’t look too appetizing…

140515-02I ended up adding some mayonnaise anyway…lol

Street Food – Seoul, Korea

So yesterday, I showed you the bad things that can happen when you eat street food. Let me share a few pictures of the GOOD things that can happen! While the corn dog was a set-back, I would still try street food!

140508-01Okay, this is gonna make me look like I only want sausages but CHECK IT OUT. Five different meats on a stick. It was DELICIOUS. I believe this was in Myeongdong.

140508-02I always see this on Korean TV shows so I had to give it a try. It’s an odeng food cart, the Korean version of Oden. This is fish cake, it’s the only thing I got this time because we were between meals. Was good!

140508-03Sundae. My gosh, I was so disappointed by this. I got it at the E-mart next door to our apartment and it was terrible. The ones in Hawaii are much better but I am sure it’s because I got it at a chain grocery store. I gotta try a good one from a food joint next time.

140508-04I didn’t get to try this food stand but I thought it look super cute. There were a lot of these types of carts in the Myeongdong area…I really want to go back to Korea SOON.
