Cha Gor

As I’m typing this entry, I can’t for the life of me remember the English name of this dish. I think the literal translation of the name is Tea Roll but if you look that up online it just pulls up a ton of swirled cream cakes. Ahh…and I don’t really see these in Chinese restaurants. Have any of you had these? They’re so delicious, one of my favorites really. It’s steamed in banana leaves but it’s soooo sticky (because the outer layer is like mochi) that they have to put a lot of oil on the leaves to get it not to stick. Well, it sticks anyway so the oil is kind of useless. Well not useless but not up to par. My family has worked around this in the past by wrapping these things in iceberg lettuce, works great for me. No oil and the entire piece is edible! I should really learn how to make this…

Happy Tuesday

Yay! Here’s to a good week I hope! It is starting off great already, one day short! Just wanted to share a cute picture of my brothers with some Starbucks. Don’t worry, I didn’t start them off caffeine at an early age. It’s just a nice cup of cocoa for the both of them. I would like to look at this picture at work. It’s been awfully cold at work lately. For some odd reason, the AC kicked into full gear a few weeks ago and all of us look ridiculous. I wear like three jackets and started using a heater. Why aren’t we doing anything about it? Because we’ve suffered through many days of NO air conditioning and I would take cold over hot any day. No AC is the worst in our building because we have no windows to open…lol. Anyway, we will see how much longer we will go through the crazy AC. No one has given in yet.

Three Day Weekend!

Hi guys. Things have finally settled just a bit. Things aren’t completely settled yet but I am a lot less stressed than I was before. This was a crazy week so I was totally stressed. I fell asleep at 8:30 last night…lol. Hope you folks will have a great weekend. Not sure how many of you have all three days off, but have a great weekend either way. I’ll try to work on some posts while I have some time! Today, I just wanted to share the Spinach, Mushroom and Garlic pasta I got from Pizza Hut a few weeks back.  Very good but we all know that the name is deceiving, this ain’t gonna be good for you. 🙂

Hmm…

Hey everyone. I had a few posts planned for this week but there has been some personal family matters that have come up and taken up my time. Still recovering a bit from things especially since they are not exactly resolved. Hoping for the best as much as I can. Hope you all are doing well out there. Did I tell you folks I twisted my ankle last week? lol…it’s been quite a week. My ankle is healing so I don’t walk with a limp now. Still a little weak walking down stairs and definitely can’t wear heels (no complaints here for that!).

Anyhow, I wish everyone all the best and please be safe out there. I leave you with food because that’s just how I do.

140204-02My favorite dish at Taco Bell – Cantina Bowl. It comes on top of cilantro rice…yummy! I don’t see it on the menu anymore but when I ordered it – they said it was available!

Happy New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year to be specific! Well this has been quite a week. I had a nice fall on Wednesday and twisted my ankle. First time ever! So I’ve been limping all around but the swelling has finally gone done. Yay! I hope its fully healed this weekend. I hope you folks had a good week. Did you have your jai today? Or maybe gau? I had quite a bit of jai and I still love it. Wish I could eat it everyday.

Lanikai Beach – Kailua, HI

I went to Lanikai Beach for the first time ever about a week ago. It was an amazing visit. So restful and peaceful! I went out to Kailua super early in the morning to try Boots and Kimo and headed over to the beach right afterwards. I snagged a sweet parking spot in the residential area (not illegally!) and walked over to the beach. This is the cleanest beach I have ever been to. The sand is so fine, it felt great! Through the course of the morning, I found that fine sand wasn’t the best in some regards. I think I still have sand in my bag – it’s so hard to clean out! But I would love to come back here again one day. I stayed about 3 hours.

140118-02There were very little people on the beach when we arrived. It was great!

Rant and Rave

I’m just gonna start off with a rant and then end with a rave so it can be on a positive note. On Friday, I had a day off from work and decided to pick up my brothers from school and spend time with them and my cousin who was leaving back to school in Chicago. I may have mentioned this before but my brothers are very young and I could be their mother. Well if I had my kids early in life, then yes, I can be their mother. I’m not. So the first pick-up was for the youngest at the preschool. It was nap-time and I told the teacher I was picking up Jayson. She was very friendly, don’t get me wrong…but I still believe she was very rude. She asked who I was and I told her and then the questions started. First she asked how old I was, and sorry but I am now at the age where it is SUPER rude to ask me how old I am. I am pretty sensitive about my age now, haha. Then she just keeps going, so I basically have to share my life story about my father and him having kids with his new wife, etc. She bombards me with non-stop questions, where do I live, who else is in my family, majorly personal and sensitive questions. I’m not comfortable but I answer them because, get this, I don’t wanna be rude! So after the whole inquisition, she then says she has to check my ID to pick him up in case I’m kidnapping him or something (ha! sarcastically).  Then at the end she has the wonderful foresight to tell me that if I had a kid, my youngest brother would be an uncle.  Thank you for the information. I’m glad she had a laugh at her own rude joke.

Anyway, sorry that was the rant. Maybe I’m at that point of the month where I’m sensitive but I still think her personal questions were rude. I got the sense that the way she asked them were also judgemental. Sigh. Other than that I had a pretty good day off, can’t wait to share the pics with you! Let me share with you a picture from Lanikai last week!

Day off – North Shore, HI

So as I have mentioned before, I was super stressed in December with a lot of different projects at work.  When my final project was complete, I totally took a vacation the day after.  Since I was taking the day off, I wanted to make it a productive one and I certainly think I did!  We drove out to Wahiawa to try Sunny Side Bakery, then up to the North Shore to get shrimp for lunch.  The day ended with dinner and a movie, while that included a lot of “doing,” I felt completely relaxed!  Let me share some pictures!

Christmas 2013

Late post but I just wanted to share some quick pictures from Christmas. A picture of my present from my friend Kristian. As you will learn in this blog, he’s an amazing gift wrapper. Take a look at his gift this year!  He already has an inspiration for next year and I’m super excited to see it executed. Hahaha…for lunch, I cooked up a whole bunch of portuguese sausage, eggs and rice for the family. It was delicious!

Teddy’s Bigger Burgers – Cheesy Tots

Have I shared my love for tater tots with you? I bet I have. But I’ll share again. I like tater tots. I like that Teddy’s serves tater tots. I also like that they let us be gluttonous and add on cheese sauce. It’s definitely a guilty pleasure. Have you tried it? You should. I just wanted to share that. I also wish we had a Sonics here so I could get tater tots with my food instead of regular fries. Am I in the minority? 🙂
