Marukame Udon – Downtown, HI

Yay! I got to try the downtown location the other week. For my review of the Waikiki location, click here. I grabbed takeout since I wasn’t staying long and wow! Their takeout is so nice! Although I did wonder how it would work if you wanted to grab tempura. I didn’t see takeout boxes for that so I didn’t grab any. Their bags for takeout are high quality handle bags! Fancy stuff. This time, I tried their special Garlic Chicken Udon Salad.

Delicious Garlic Chicken Udon Salad!

Since the dish is cold, the noodles are very firm which I like. The dressing works perfectly with this dish too! Give it a try!

Deluxe Breakfast!

Hey guys. I assume that you folks know about the breakfast platters at McDonald’s right? The deluxe platter comes with three pieces of portuguese sausage and 2 pieces of spam. My cousin told me that if you ask for no spam – they just give you double the order of portuguese sausage. THAT’S SIX PIECES. Okay, that’s way too much but if you are ever feeling hungry – go for it! It’s only a little more than the regular platter and McD has the best breakfast platters. Yup, I said it. I’ll stand by that unless someone can prove me wrong. ๐Ÿ™‚

140625-01Yah, I was hungry this morning. It was way too much. Gosh, this picture is making me hungry.

Izakaya Torae Torae Part 2!

Yes I went back! And it was so good. I called in late for a seat during a weekend and got seating at the counter. That’s great! I’m fine with that. For the post of my first visit, go here. Let’s get to the post!

Spicy Tuna Donย – pretty good. I think it’s not worth it to get something like this here. Spicy tuna is a way to cover up not so good quality ahi – you should just order the good stuff!

140623-04

Hamachi Carpaccio – delicious! I love the touch of truffle oil. Highly recommended!

Pork Belly Kakuni Bowl – heaven. Last time I came here, we got the small appetizer. This is the full size on rice. SO good. Look at that egg yolk, it’s so orange! Reminds me of Japan.

Kauai Sweet Shrimp – this was the special that night. Deliciuos!

140623-10

As with any good izakaya, here are the heads fried up for your pleasure. Sorry, I already ate one.

STAR OF THE NIGHT AGAIN. SALMON NIGIRI. King Salmon to be precise. Can’t be beat.

140623-11

Here’s an awesome reason to sit at the bar. They give you freebies sometimes! I came back from the restroom as he was handing these over. I didn’t hear him initially so I was like, we didn’t order this. He was trying to tell us it was a free sample. So shame. I thanked him gratefully and we tried it! It was a good kimchee roll. I think it had chicken in it too, it was good! Thanks!

140623-12

Yah, I had to end it with another piece of King Salmon. I just couldn’t help myself!

Happy Friday Cookies!

My brothers made cookies the other week. Looks good ah? Hahahaha, happy Friday everyone!

Agu’s Savory Parmesan Kotteri Tonkotsu

I’ve done too many Agu Ramen posts to count so I’ll just share a new bowl I tried the other day. I wanted to see what the big fuss was about since pictures of this was popping up all over Instagram. How was it? Good! But I didn’t taste a real strong parmesan taste and since the cheese was shaved really thin, it’s not like I was getting nice strands of melted cheese as I slurped noodles. It also costs like 4 dollars more than the regular kotteri tonkotsu so it wasn’t worth it to me. $4 for a sprinkling of cheese? I’ll stick to the regular…thanks.

Hmm…$15.75 versus $11.75, go for the regular. This one is overhyped.

Healthy Dinner = Healthy Wallet

My friend and I were cruising around for some dinner the other night and since we couldn’t head to the place we wanted, we decided to check out Down to Earth. We both love their tofu nori rolls so we decided to make a salad at the salad bar. A scoop here, a scoop there and before I knew it…I was paying $16 bucks for a container of salad. Salad. Gosh, it costs so much to eat healthy. The salad wasn’t great, I got a bunch of beets for my salad and it was the worst part! They had shredded the beets and they were so dry, it was hard to eat. Do I think the salad was good? Not at all. I saw another guy really packing his salad plate FULL – I’m scared to imagine what he paid.

140618-01

140618-02I was really excited about the watercress tofu salad but it was SO bitter. I was so unhappy.

140618-03Brownie! I forgot the exact name of this but I’m sure it was healthy in some way but it tastes like it looks…delicious! Doesn’t this look so moist? It was so good. It was nice to get the taste of the salad out of my mouth…hehe

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

Those who get the title of my post, A+ for you. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have shared my affinity for beets in the past. So guess what? Costco is selling fresh beets in their refrigerated section. They are fully cooked and peeled…ready to eat! I was so happy when I found them. I have straight-up been eating them at work as part of my lunch for the past few days. No salad, just beets. I’m insane. I know.

Anyway, hope you all are doing well. Today was Monday and it just felt like…it was dragging. I’m starting a new thing that I might regret. I don’t feel tired in the morning so I started drinking coffee right after lunch. It helps to keep me alert in the afternoon but it’s like 10 pm now and I still feel alert. This may need some tweaking but I do like that I felt alert all day today. Crazy yah. Anyway, I took some pictures of the beets! ย I think a container comes with about 12-16 beets and it costs $6.29 – I think that’s a great deal! We all know what a pain it can be to prepare beets – I’ll pay for it this way anytime! Oh by the way, they have a pretty long shelf-life since each package is vacuum sealed!

Happy Friday the 13th!

Wowowow it’s been busy!! Wednesday was a day off for me but I spent the morning running errands…then the afternoon being all pissy. Well for part of it anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚ I also cooked some awesome spaghetti for the boys and they loved it. I saw the technique on a blog a few weeks ago and decided to make it…what a great idea! Here is a picture of the before and after!

140613-01

I used the Redondo’s red hot dogs and skewered them with angel hair pasta. I cooked it for about 6-7 minutes (really fast since the angel hair is so thin!), drained em…emptied a can of chili (beanless of course!) and threw the pasta back in and mixed it up a bit. I also added some mozzarella cheese which went great with it. As we were eating, I thought it was a bit dry so I added a small bit of ketchup. Boy did that help! The boys LOVED it. There’s not a lot of dishes that tempt kids to clean their plates but this is definitely one of them! Have a great Friday the 13th everyone! I wish you all the luck. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Sunday Happy Funday!

We woke up early this morning and decided to head out to Makapu’u for a hike. Well we were originally going to go up to the Lighthouse but then decided to walk around the tidepools. It was such a nice walk and the scenery really transported me to another place – I imagined being in some kind of jungle. ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, I hope you folks all had a great weekend! Just want to share some pictures from our journey today.
